Ferrari has asked the City of Irvine for permission to run vehicle repair operations at a site on McGaw Avenue. It is a small, procedural land-use request, and the city has yet to act on it.
There is no showroom in the plans and no groundbreaking, just a place for the company to service the cars it builds. The application asks only for the right to fix cars there, nothing grander. McGaw Avenue is a workaday stretch of Irvine better known for warehouses than for Italian sports cars.
For Orange County's Ferrari owners, a repair shop wearing the marque's own name would be a handy thing to have close to home. Cars this expensive can be particular about who touches them, and a factory-blessed garage is not something every zip code offers.
A company that builds very fast cars wants a place in Irvine to work on them.
For now it is only a proposal. The request sits among the city's pending development applications, where it will wait for staff review before anyone turns a wrench.
